Meet Thakkar, a past receipient of the ISV Magazine Spotlight Award, won the first national student advocacy award presented by the Ontario Dental Hygienists’ Association.
Meet Thakkar, an international student from India attending Cambrian College in Canada received the first ever student advocacy award presented by the Ontario Dental Hygienists’ Association (ODHA).
Thakkar received the International Student Voice Magazine Spotlight Award in 2013 for being a stand-out leader and role model for international students at Cambrian College, as well as Canada. He was also the first international student to be elected as the student representative on the Board of Governors of Cambrian College.
The ODHA Student Award for Excellence in Dental Hygiene Advocacy recognizes the contributions one gives to the community through advocacy and initiatives that take place outside the classroom. For three years, Thakkar helped organize Walk for a Smile, an annual student event to raise money to help provide student placement and oral care services to the homeless and others in need.
