U-Multirank was launched by the European Union (EU) as a new way to assess universities around the world.
According to University World News, more than 500 universities worldwide are expected to sign up for U-Multirank and assessment results will be shared in 2014.
This new ranking system is said to help students choose the university or college that’s best for them by being able to better see the strengths and weaknesses of the institutions.
U-Multirank will rate universities in five areas:
1. Reputation for research
2. Quality of teaching and learning
3. International orientation
4. Success in knowledge transfer, such as partnerships with businesses and start-ups
5. Contribution to regional growth
